Exercise is good for you(and us!)

Lana and I decided that we are going to go work out at Solheim regularly cos we both know we need to discipline ourselves and we have this great facility at our school. We just started going there together this week, although I haven't been going there every day with her due to the weird schedule of Missions Conference (sorry, Lana!). I'm glad I have a roommate who is willing to help me discipline myself and it's such a blessing to have a buddy to motivate me to go exercise and not let me become lazy. =)

intro

phebes and i went on a roommate date tonight, and we had so much fun we made The Contract:

we will have a roommate date twice a month

and

each time we have to do something we've never done before.

and we'll document our adventures on this blog! but first we had to come up with a name for the blog, and it took us several el stops to figure it out. we went back over our jokes and our mini adventure to come up with it ...

originally, we were just going out for dessert. we took the el up to western and went to Cafe Selmarie for dessert. we split a slice of orange chocolate decadence and mocha something torte. the torte was really disappointing - dry and a little tasteless but oh, the orange chocolate was mmmmmmmmm!!

then we decided to walk down lincoln avenue for a little bit to see what we would see, you know, since we were up near lincoln square we might as well explore (it is supposedly known for its little european food joints, etc.). we did find two sweet cafes that we want to go back and visit!! and then we jumped into this little hole in the wall place called the secret closet.

it really is about as big as a closet. well, maybe a really wealthy person's walk-in closet, obviously, there's a little room. but it is so perfect. wooden walls and floors, with purses hanging all over the walls, baskets of scarves and gloves, a nice selection of thrift and consignment clothes .... soft, drapey curtains held with hair clips separating the dressing rooms. the kind of ambiance that actually makes trying on clothes fun?! yes!!

the fact that i found a cute top and my birthday present (thanks, phebes!! even though i don't get it until november 5, and i'll be so surprised!!) isn't really that important.

what is important is that phebe found the boots.

they're like the jeans in the sisterhood of the traveling pants. except they're not pants. they're a pair of boots that somehow fit both of us, even though my feet are four sizes bigger than phebes. and one of the buckles is broken.

i guess there's nothing super special about the boots - they're neither dior nor diamond encrusted - but for some reason they struck both phebes and my fancy! and they are magical. we think. we might even give them a place of honor in our room. phebes half-jokingly said they could be the focal point, and i seriously suggested we could surround them with candles.

anyways, they're a symbol of our roommateshipness and the fact that our first ever shopping outing together was a success!!!!! this is soooo crucial and now i am so excited to go thrifting again with phebes!! we have good shopping karma! (not that i believe in karma, but, shopping is a little otherworldly.)

the only bad thing that came out of the evening is that now phebes is so anxious to find a shoe repairperson to fix the buckle!! and it's eleven fifty-six pm! ;)

*we had never!

gone out together

taken pictures together

eaten at cafe s.

gone shopping together

started a blog together!

[i'm super excited about the blog thing because it was one of my goals for 2008.]

all pics and the sweet blog header are phebe's artistry!

now ... i'm going to go to the studying i replaced with blog writing. and maybe sleep.

for the both of us! -
